LEO Vinci … My Masterpiece

The “LEO Vinci” masterpiece is my favorite! This piece is all about me. In fact, I’m featured (in a cameo) as the cat. But I am also a Leo by horoscope! Which is part of my natal chart.

I used to have a cat named Boris who helped me with my homework when I was in college. He slept on all of my books and projects for school! I miss him very much. I’m sure he would love our pastel class and I would find his colorful footprints all over the house. Just like me, he was a very creative and messy cat. 😊

My creative process was indeed a journey!!! The original idea was to focus on my astrology chart. I started with several rough sketches that led to several more sketches and so on……

And then all at once, inspiration hit me! The painting’s balanced dichotomy between its science and art aspects blended into pastel perfection.  

First, I sprayed in layers yellow and purple colors on the dark blue paper. Next, I drew my natal chart and added the cat using the white pastel. I truly combined all the pastel techniques that I have learned throughout the class. I’m so proud that I have been able to elevate my craft over the semester with everyone’s positive feedback. And this is highlighted in my confident strokes that now add realism with shadows. The painting’s final touch is the cat’s tail grasping the paint brush – it literally and figuratively is - the exclamation point!
